Saturday was a bright sunny day. The sun was shining, the skies were blue. People were out enjoying and having ice-cream. But from Sunday, the weather suddenly changed. The sun vanished from the skies, and the temperatures plummeted. We spent the Sunday at home, not realizing how cold it had gotten outside.
On Monday, I had to take T to a workshop at the Volkshochschule. The schools are closed this week, and I had enrolled him in this course 3-4 months back. He didn't want to go to the daycare at school as he doesn't enjoy it there. There are very fewer kids, and the caretaker for this week was not his favorite. So I decided to do something different this time. This is a workshop for kids aged 6 to 12, especially during this week of school holidays. They make different figures out of clay there.
Yesterday he made a dinosaur, and today they all made a cat, except T. He declared he didn't really want to, and the teacher didn't compel him to finish the task he had started. So he just made an egg for the dinosaur and kept quiet. The teacher didn't talk to him or encourage him to see what's the problem and asked him to do it from the beginning. He lost interest and broke the whole thing he had made and sat there getting bored.
When I went to pick him up, I asked him what did he do today? He narrated the whole thing, and I didn't like the fact that he didn't try what others had decided to do today. It was a joint decision, and he should have given it a second try. But he was more concerned about the time (3 hrs on 1 day) and that he would have to do it over tomorrow if he wasn't able to finish it today. He didn't seem to be perturbed by the fact that he didn't do anything much today. I was in dismay, not knowing whether to be happy that he doesn't take tension of anything or be sad that he doesn't seem to fathom the depth of things yet.
Tomorrow it will be a new day and a new figure. Let's see what he does tomorrow.
