Blog Marathon - Post 20 - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

On a rainy Saturday evening, T and I had nothing else to do. We decided to watch a children's movie called "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and we were glad that we saw the movie. We watched the new version which was available on Netflix. The famous character of Willy Wonka is played by Johnny Depp, and he has done an excellent job. I haven't watched any of his movies. But this one was perfect. A person who appears evil and eccentric on the outside, but from inside, he is soft and genuine!

Willy Wonka, the owner of the chocolate factory, keeps a competition where he invites 5 children inside his chocolate factory if they get the golden tickets in the wrapper of the chocolates. The protagonist, Charlie, wins the last golden wrapper and along with his grandfather, who once worked in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, goes for a trip inside. Along with him are 4 other kids and their parents. One by one, Willy Wonka tests the kids and their honesty and nature, and only Charlie remains till the end. All the other kids lose along with the competition. He offers Charlie his chocolate factory as he needs someone truthful and honest to take care of his empire once he gets old and retires. He is ready to give Charlie his entire factory only on the condition that Charlie has to leave his poor parents and grandparents behind. Charlie refuses to leave his family for the most loved thing in the world, chocolate! Willi Wonka is estranged from his father. His father, who was a dentist, never allowed him to eat chocolate because he knew it doesn't do any good to the teeth and the health. Willy, as a child, never understood the thought and care behind it, and he leaves his father to travel the world and became the most celebrated chocolate maker in the whole world. Willy Wonka visits his father with Charlie and realizes that his father misses him and has kept himself abreast of all the developments in Willy's life.

Willy realizes that family is essential, and he invites Charlie and his family inside his chocolate factory. He gets a family, and Charlie gets his chocolate factory. He becomes rich and also has his family by his side.

The chocolate factory is a treat for the eyes. What a palette of colors! How far can the imagination run! What good use can the graphics put to! What computer tricks! What different types of chocolates and candies can someone really think of! I felt like a small kid again, trying to absorb the different visuals thrown at me in the movie. A visual treat, I must say! A heartwarming message that family is most important, along with a treat to the senses.

An evening well spent!
