Blog Marathon - February 2023 - Day 11 - Antarang 2023

Like every year, Maharashtra Mandal Karlsruhe will celebrate the signature event of Gudhi Padwa on March 25, 2023. The previous two events, the Diwali program in November 2022 and the Sankrant (haldi kunku) event in January 2023, were both sold out, so we anticipate that this event will be as well. And the expectations of the public have increased a lot. We need to give our best this year too.

How does this event get executed? Who are the people behind the scenes? I would like to tell you the story behind the scenes today. MMK usually does three events in a year. Starting with Sankrant, where it is only for women and kids, then it is the Gudhi Padwa event, and then we close the year with the Diwali Faral event.

Every event at MMK has a theme. Every event has a coordinator and a co-coordinator. They both overlook other teams, e.g., the cultural team, technical team, food team, communication team, judging team, etc. Each sub-team has a coordinator and a co-coordinator, too. Within teams, we take up one particular stream and align our thoughts and efforts towards that. For example, I am on the cultural team this year. Along with three other members from MMK, we will oversee the cultural performances, decide the sequence of the program, and coordinate with the participants about sending their audio (karaoke) to us if needed. We also have to check if the entries that people send suit the theme or not. This year's event is called Antarang 2023. There are many interesting performances that are lined up and we are looking forward to all the artists performance and hoping that the public will like it too.

The flyer is ready with the details of the venue, registration fees, etc. The Google form is also made ready for the participants to fill out, and the registration fees have to be transferred to the main coordinator's bank account. Repeated reminders are sent to the WhatsApp group every week to encourage people to register in time and avoid hassles at the last minute.

We have meetings almost every week. Once within the team and once with all the other members of the MMK team. Everyone has a busy schedule, but we all see to it that the event is successful. We try our best to keep our culture and language alive in Germany. And in fact, the journey towards this event is more exciting than the event itself. We as the MMK team usually present a dance sequence in every event, and the practice sessions are more fun and exciting than the final day. The final day just goes by too fast, and everyone is busy doing their own assigned tasks. But for the dance practices, it is a lot of fun. We laugh so much, we pull jokes on each other, but we are always thinking of one collective goal: making the event a grand success.

The event starts at about 3 p.m., when the people come in and register themselves at the venue. The tea coupons are handed over to them, and then they wait in the hall. The program starts around 4 p.m. and goes on until 6 p.m., where the cultural program is presented by various participants, e.g., singing, dancing, playing an instrument, or doing a small skit. After 6 p.m., the food vendors with delicious food await the people, where they pay and eat. People and vendors leave the venue after 8 p.m., and then all of us MMK team members clean the hall, return the keys, and go home with happy minds and full hearts!

So here's an invitation to you all. In case you stay in and around Karlsruhe, please grace the occasion with your presence. I promise you, you won't be disappointed, and you will become regular visitors to MMK events..

The dilemma

My mother-in-law left for Pune today after spending two and a half months with us in Germany. And suddenly the house seems empty without her...
