Blog Marathon Post 7 - The yearly get-together

Last year my school mates from the 1995 batch of Kidland English School, Dombivli met up after almost 20 years and we had a grand re-union in Mumbai in December. Thanks to Whtsapp and Facebook, we met the friends, with whom we spent the amazing years of school. It felt good to meet the buddies, who had changed a lot in appearance, but at heart, we all were the same.

6 of us took the lead and hunted the location. It had to be accessible to everybody. Also food had to be good. The mementos had to be decided and also the gifts and date and contribution. Thankfully, everything went well and we had a gala of time, clicked a lot of pictures, caught up with so many of the friends who were quite respectable people in the society. We had became kids, laughed, danced, joked with each other. We did not care if someone was a doctor or a banker. We had no fear of being watched and being judged. It was a totally unexpected that we could gel so well after such a long gap. It seemed as if nothing had happened. So to continue with the tradition, we also decided to meet up this year.

And my god, for 2 full days we all were busy with what to do and when to do and what dress code should we have and whether we should bring families and what not. Last year we had kept the reunion during Christmas, so there were a few people who couldn't come as they had already planned their vacations. So this year we are going to do it on last Sunday of November, so that people are available after Diwali and before Christmas. We also decided to just meet up without families. We would then have to run after the kids and manage our partners. We also decided that we will have it for a whole day so that there is no tension of coming and going in time. A few people like me, who are out of Mumbai need to book train and flight tickets well in advance. We gals even decided to have the dress code as red and guys are yet to decide that. They will take their own sweet time, I know.

There is so much of excitement with just the announcement of the event, what will happen when we all actually meet at some resort for the whole day. People have already marked their calenders and are gearing up for the day. How strange is human mind! We do not know what is going to happen tomorrow and it starts planning and dreaming about tomorrow. But with school friends, it feels the time has not moved at all. We are all still there, sitting on the benches, studying, fighting, bitching, eating food from each others tiffins, getting tensed about the exams and so on.

Why not try to recreate the magic and go back to the same old school and classrooms for the yearly get-together? Teachers would be proud to see us and we all owe a big thanks to the school, don't we? I know a lot of planning needs to go into gathering all the buddies this year too and I am already looking forward to it.

The dilemma

My mother-in-law left for Pune today after spending two and a half months with us in Germany. And suddenly the house seems empty without her...
