I am not sure about you, but I was extremely upset on
getting the news that Salman Khan, the famous Bollywood actor was acquitted of
all charges and that he is scot free after a person died as his car rammed into
the footpath. The charges couldn’t be proved it seems. Whether Salman was
driving or his driver or a ghost is not clear. He did not wait to see what
happened to that person or take him to the hospital. He just fled from the
scene. The police tried to do their best to gather evidences and prove him
guilty, but the case turned in such a way that it left everybody surprised and
the faith in judiciary was shaken once again and it was proved that it is a sin
to be a commoner in India.
The great Salman runs a charitable organization called “Being
Human”. He was also involved in shooting a blackbuck and two
chinkaras (a type of gazelle) while shooting in Udaipur for a movie. This
is how the founder of that institution is? Kill animals and people on the
street? Is this the way he is setting an example in front of 1000s who follow
him? Drink, drive, kill and be free. Isn’t he responsible for his actions? Isn’t
he a responsible citizen of India? Why didn’t he complain about his driver (if
we believe that driver was on the wheel) and hand him over to the police? Didn’t
his conscience prick him once? All these questions died in the court room as
they won’t be answered anytime. That life of person who died in that mishap was
not a kin of any wealthy or known personality, so it was not at all worth
getting justice for him.
There will be discussions on Television, on Facebook, on
Twitter. Bollywood chamchas of this actor would pour their love and respect for
him and announce how happy they are on his acquittal. His fans will celebrate
and burst crackers. Producers will feel relieved that their money is safe which
they have currently invested in him. And his movies, though a no-brainer will
keep on attracting the masses.
The bhai of Bollywood may not be affected by my emotional
outrage, but he has definitely lost one fan in me and I have boycotted his
movies long back and yesterday’s hearing has made the resolve stronger. It’s my
way of protesting against him. Sad that the justice was delayed in first place
and then denied to a commoner. There are many people who are awaiting justice
in a hit and run case just because they are not Salman Khan.

Yes, this is India!
