A day trip to the Turmberg in Durlach

After the rainy weather and biting cold of yesterday, the sun shone again! The temperature was still low, but it was sunny. So I decided to make good use of the daylight and T, his grandmom and I went out for about 5 hours. It was one of those peculiar Sundays when the shops were open in the city center and we decided to make the most of it.
We took the bus to a place called Europaplatz and then took Tram no. 1 to Durlach. It's a little town in Karlsruhe and is a nice place with a good shopping area. We went to an Indian restaurant first to have lunch. I haven't been to any Indian restaurant from the time I have come here and I wanted to check it out once. T and mil readily agreed and we had a hearty meal with Mango Lassi, 2 Punjabi vegetable dishes, Roti, and rice. The people were warm and nice and they also offered us tea after lunch. But we were so full of the food that we refused.

We then proceeded to the stop (Turmbergbahn) from where a small train goes up the hill and from there, we can see the whole city of Karlsruhe. There is also a tower there which I and T climbed. T counted the steps to around 150 one way. We went to the highest point there and watched the city from all the sides of the tower. We could also see the office of Bosch in Karlsruhe which has a big warehouse. We could see a highway and also a train route where T spotted the red Regional Train going. We clicked a few pictures and came down. It was windy and cold. We saw 4 women with 4 majestic horses. They had taken a break for 10 minutes and T could touch one of the horses. We watched them for some time and then looked around for some more scenery.

There were vineyards around and also a few paths for walking/trekking. The route was marked and one could choose between 2.5 km and 5 km. I decided to come back to walk with some friends when the weather was good and when we had more time. It was clean and quiet inspite of many people coming there. After spending an hour and a half there, we took the small train back to the tram stop 1 and came to the city center.

The city center was full of people. Shops were bustling, kids were playing. Musicians were on the street, farmers had got vegetables and fruits to sell, there were many people who were eating ice-cream. We went to a few shops to just do window shopping. I wondered if every Sunday would be like this in Germany, ever! But it is not possible. I had already warned T that I won't be buying him anything today. So he patiently looked at things he wanted to, e.g. Pokemon cards among other things without asking me to buy anything. We then proceeded home at 5 pm, tired and happy that we spent a day well. The weekend just flew by and another week stares at us.

The dilemma

My mother-in-law left for Pune today after spending two and a half months with us in Germany. And suddenly the house seems empty without her...
