So as I had mentioned in my previous post, Shreya and I went to meet my old friend cum ex-colleague and my mentor in blogging world, Mr. John. What better place than MTR could it be for our having South-Indian snacks? We headed towards the place on 100ft Road, Indiranager and all the memories of that road flew past my eyes. A and I had spent 4 and a half years in that area and we knew every nook and corner of that area. But now after 5 years, it seemed so different and changed. Anyways, within the next half an hour we all gathered at the restaurant.
There were people waiting outside and we thought that the chance to immediately savour the food and satiate our hunger would be delayed. But in about 5 minutes, we were ushered in and we found a good place to sit and chat and most important to eat!
John hasn't changed a bit in all these years. He is still soft-spoken, reclusive and extremely humble. He has shifted to Hyderabad for a project and he doesn't quite like it there, he being a pakka Bangalorean. He tries his best to visit Bangalore once every month and keeps himself abreast of all the changes happening in this city. We spoke about the cities, temperatures, kindle, books, food and what not. John and I ordered our favorite Idli-vada and Shreya ordered Rawa dosa. At MTR they give a small amount of pure ghee with every meal and that added to the taste to whatever we were having. Everybody around us was engrossed in eating their respective dish.
That made me think. We all are different people coming from different states, speak different languages, have different customs and traditions and even food culture. But at that point we all were one, enjoying the delicious South-Indian snacks served in one of the best South-Indian restaurants. We were oblivious to the caste, creed, status, of who came in a Mercedes or who came in an auto rickshaw. At that point, in that place, all were equal. All were served food and all were treated as equals.
After relishing the Idli-wada, I had a filter coffee. Had a feeling of being on the top of the world. My favourite people to talk to, my favourite food which I can have daily thrice a day, a relaxed Sunday morning after a marathon of 5k. What more can one ask for!? The next time, John comes down to Bangalore, we have planned to go to our favourite book stores, The Sapna Book House. That book house is a testimonial to our growing friendship where we have spent hours finding, reading and buying books! So see you soon John!
