The Heatwave

After the end of grey and dreadful days of winter, I was looking forward to the Spring and Summer as then I would get to go out and go cycling or go for a walk in the sunny weather. But little had I known that this year Europe would be gripped with terrible heatwaves and that I would have to sit at home closing all the doors and windows to protect myself from the outside heat during the weeks of a heatwave in Europe. Temperatures touched 40 and in some place even 42.6 degrees. Europe has never seen such temperatures in the last 100 years. There are no ceiling fans or Air conditioners in any household here as it wasn't necessary all these years. What exactly is going wrong, not only here but all over the world?

We are amidst an environmental crisis. Mankind has destroyed the balance between man and nature. Trees are cut mercilessly for making homes for the ever-growing population. Consumption of meat and meat products leads to a lot of pollution through the use of fossil fuel, methane is released with the killing of animals, a lot of water and land is consumed for feeding the animals before killing them. The increasing use of plastic is another factor that leads to a lot of pollution. The increasing waste and its disposal take a toll on the environment as well. As far as Europe is concerned, it's far better-taken care than in Asia. People in Europe value the natural resources, see to it that they are not wasted or that they are used wisely. But in spite of these efforts, Europe is facing the heat.

These heatwaves are recurring with a gap of 2 or 3 weeks and the month of August, the peak summer month is yet to come. I wonder what will happen next month. All over the news, there have been reports of a similar heatwave in the US, UK, and Asian countries. In India-Pakistan border (the desert region near Rajasthan), the temperature hit 50 degrees this year! It's high time that we act and do something to reduce the damage which we have done to nature. Planting more trees, eating less meat, conserving water, educating the people about using less plastic and thinking of ways to make plastic useable in some form or the other are some of the ways, I can think of.

People in their own capacity are doing things to combat problems of pollution, forest conservation.

I am sure with development in technology, there would be new ways and methods invented to tackle the environmental problems and if want to give our children a better future, we should do something for it right now.

It's time.

  1. Temperature increase is the result of ignorance and global warming. Plantation of more and more trees are only the solution.
    Very nice post.
