Zara, the apple of our eye, who is like our daughter, born to our best friend, Sonali turns 7 today. I am away in Germany and Snehal stays around 5 km from my place in Bangalore. Zara is fond of us and our boys and she is very kind and caring and we love her a lot. What gift could I give her from so far? I thought of writing this to her on my and Snehal's behalf.
Dear Zara,
Today is your 7th birthday.
7 years ago, I and Snehal aunty were eagerly waiting for your arrival. Snehal aunty had just delivered a baby boy and your mom was next in line and then it was my turn in the first week of April. We both had secretly wished for a daughter and god laughed at us and said next time and gave us baby boys! But your mom was the luckiest amongst us and she was gifted with you.
You stole our heart at the very first sight. You had thick hair and you slept a lot for the initial months. Your toothless grin had a special place in our hearts and our boys and you became best of friends. We met often with you all and always had stories to narrate and laugh about. We all were sailing in the same boat, sleepless, tired, yet happy that you three had given us a chance to become mothers. Snehal aunty moved out, but she kept in touch with your mom and me. And then I moved to Germany taking away Tanay, the only friend you had after Hridhaan left from Genesis.
You are too small to read this letter, Zara. But on your 18th birthday, I will request your mom to read this out to you.
We wish you get all the happiness and joy in your life. Remember money doesn't always necessarily bring joy. Sometimes, small things give joy which can't be measured with money. Do such things in your life. Do not go by the set rules of studying, getting a job, getting married, having children, looking after them. That comes naturally to a woman anyways. Do something different, something creative, exciting, that will make a difference in your and others life. Share, care and most importantly, never lose self-respect. Don't let anyone else decide how good you are. You are a strong girl and I am sure you will grow into a very strong woman. A woman who respects others, yet sets her own boundaries. A woman, who doesn't get bogged down by everyday pressures, rather enjoys dealing with them. Travel a lot, gain experience, see different cultures, meet different people. That will definitely enrich your life. Treat people with love and care. Most importantly be yourself.
We wish to see you fly. Scale heights, undertake new ventures. We will always be there to guide you and we promise to remain your best-friend aunties. Let us know about your crushes, your fears, and your passions. We will be happy to celebrate your 18th birthday together with our boys.
Until then, take care and make the most of your childhood. You have wonderful parents and grandparents. Make the most of their company.
We will always love you.
