Adios, Amiga (Goodbye, friend)

Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival - C.S.Lewis

This quote holds true in my and Arpita’s case.

We both are from Mumbai. We studied Arts in college. We love Literature, Arts, History, Mumbai, Life and liveliness.

But we had never seen each other in India. Only when destiny brought us together in Germany in a common group did we realize that we share so much with each other.
She is a staunch feminist and an atheist. I am her milder version.

She has her own views and does not hesitate to express them without any fear. I am not a direct person compared to her.

She is a list-person and tries to plan everything well in advance. I am more like ‘let’s go with the flow’.

Inspite of being so different, yet similar, we hit it off with each other instantaneously. We found solace in each other’s company in this country, where one can’t make friends easily. We shared our plans, worries, tips on kids, recipes, books and also a bunch of things we detested about ourselves.

On last Saturday, we met for a cup of coffee. It was sort of a farewell to her as she is leaving for another commitment and the coming days are going to be very hectic, packing and arranging things. We sat in the coffee shop, sometimes engaged in talks, sometimes in silence, savoring every moment of our friendship. We do not know when we will meet again, but we are hopeful about that.

We will definitely keep in touch, thanks to the technology! But it is definitely going to create a void in my life till I will be in this country. She was my only friend here, outside the office colleagues. But this is life, it never stops, it moves ahead in leaps and bounds and surprises us every moment. We should be open to change and accept the change cheerfully.

I am going to say goodbye for now with no sadness. Important is that our paths crossed and we got to know each other. I wish her all the happiness and good luck in life and may our friendship thrive in all seasons and in all places spread upon the globe!

The dilemma

My mother-in-law left for Pune today after spending two and a half months with us in Germany. And suddenly the house seems empty without her...
