After 20 years..

Technology has once again come to my rescue.

Yeah! After 20 years, the gang of girls from my school is re-united, re-connected. Thanks to the wonderful and magical App called Whtsapp.

Early this year, I got in touch with many of my old batch mates and realized that the boys were connected to each other all this time. Then why the girls shouldn’t also give it a try, I thought. Suddenly, it dawned on me to start such a group of girls and I immediately posted it on our FB group page. The responses started pouring in and within no time, we 4 gals took off.

Deepa and Nidhi were the first ones to send me their numbers and slowly and steadily, we could find almost everybody except a few. And we hit along instantaneously. Imagine the chaos and the chatter when 18 girls meet online after 20 long years. We were curious to know the proceedings in each other’s lives and were also eager to share the information about ourselves. Many of us were happily married and had lovely kids and a great career. There are full time moms in us too and they were enjoying their role thoroughly. We shared our latest pictures and the pictures of our kiddos too. This sudden re-union created a wave of happiness in our lives and we all were glued to our phones to much surprise of our families! We all had a smile on our face and a sense of contentment on our faces. We wished to see each other in person at that very moment and we all had a good laugh because almost all of us had changed in shapes and sizes. Yet the mutual feeling of love, warmth and togetherness was still very alive and like small kids we were literally jumping in our minds while talking to each other.

Nidhi has a strong memory. She narrated almost every important event from the school time and we all were dumbfounded. We could remember a thing or two, but not so many incidents like her! She told us to share our pics and birthdates. Wonder what she is going to do with them! But I am sure; there is a surprise in store for us! Deepa and Tina took the lead to arrange a get-together in this month itself and I am very glad to see that we all are so eager to meet each other. Nothing has really changed in these 20 years. We have become mature and adults and are doing roles of a wife, mother, career woman etc, but the initial bond that we all have formed during school years has remained intact and has rekindled that school girl in each of us. We all want to relive those happy moments now, when we can’t really go back to school. But by meeting each other, we can at least re-visit that chapter of life, which was perhaps the most wonderful of all times. We fought like crazy that time, but we also shared our food. We went to each other’s birthday parties and also we also competed against each other in sports and exams. We went to camps and picnics together and also bitched about each other in groups. But that was all a part and parcel of that age, isn’t it?

Today we have no hangs-up, no attitudes, no personal egos, no status checks, only pure love and affection amongst us. I so very wish that we all gray in each other’s company and love and wish each other a very happy and fruitful and successful re-union for the remaining years to come!

Amen!

The dilemma

My mother-in-law left for Pune today after spending two and a half months with us in Germany. And suddenly the house seems empty without her...
