We reached home after walking for almost one and a half hours and to my dismay, the scarf on my sling bag was missing. I don't remember where I had dropped it. We had walked almost 6 kms and I had no energy to go back that same route to check out if my scarf was lying somewhere. But I thought, let me give a try. If I won't try, I won't know if I could have got it back or not. I mustered my hope and went back the road from where we came back towards the house. 1 km down, no signs, went a little further, losing hope now. I was not willing to walk all the 6 kms the other way round back home and lo and behold! On a tree trunk, my scarf was waving at me, waiting for me. I was very happy to see the scarf, my efforts to go back had paid off. Someone had found the scarf lying on the road and very dutifully tied it to the nearby tree, in the hope that the owner will come back for it. I find this very often on the tracks when I go for walk. People lose their hand gloves, caps, small accessories. Usually someone picks them up and puts them aside on the road so that the owner can see it if he comes to find it.
Last week when I had gone shopping with my mother in law in the city, we lost the cap that she was wearing. We went back searching, but couldn't find it. It was dark, rainy and we had no energy to go back the entire city centre, where we had been. So we gave up the search. But today it was different, I had the hope and found it exactly where I had hoped. I thanked the unknown person who did that good deed of typing up the scarf on the tree and came back home with a big smile on my face.
My German neighbour has lost her wallet many times in the train and every single time, she had got back all the important cards inside. But this time during long weekend of German unity day, she lost it again and didn't remember where exactly that had happened. She waited for many days, but no one returned it to the Lost and Found center. She had to do all her cards again, bank, train and her identity card. She had to undergo a lot of hassles, but she had no choice. She got all her cards done again.
A few weeks back, my son and his friend got down at the school stop from train. His friend forgot his sports bag in the train. These boys waited for the train to come back from the other side, one went to talk to the driver and one went inside the train to find the bag exactly where it was forgotten by that friend. I felt proud of them to have handled it well without any panic or any help from parents.
Sometimes you are lucky, sometimes not. I have heard many different stories from people. Some have found their belongings, the others haven't.
Let me know in the comments if you have lost and found your prized possession, have you been lucky to get back that you thought you had lost forever?
